Adventure or city?
WHAT ELSE YOU CAN DO OFF THE BEATEN TRACK.
On warm summer days, Lake Zauchensee attracts bathers, but there's more to it: you can also enjoy various water sports in your summer holiday in the Austrian Alps. Adventurers, on the other hand, are drawn to the cliffs or treetops, into the gorges and rivers. On bad weather days, in addition to a wellness day with us, a trip to nearby Altenmarkt with its thermal spa or to Salzburg, where many other attractions await, is a great option. Discover the destinations!

The Zauchensee, just a few meters from Hotel Alpenrose, is refreshing even in summer, yet both young and old love taking the plunge into the water. In collaboration with Magic Mountains, you can also learn windsurfing or sailing with experienced instructors – pedal boats are available for hire as well.

Right on the shore of Zauchensee, you'll find a short and relatively easy via ferrata that's suitable for children aged 12 and older. Highlight: two bridges high above the ground.
In nearby Altenmarkt, you’ll also find a high ropes course with six different trails and 50 stations of varying difficulty levels, perfect for children from age 4 upwards.

While rafting involves navigating a section of white water in an inflatable raft, canyoning takes you through a gorge or river by foot, swimming, climbing, or rappelling. This creates a particularly immersive experience in nature. From Zauchensee, you can reach several locations offering rafting and canyoning after a short drive.

Just about 10 km away from Zauchensee lies the nearest larger town, Altenmarkt. Here, you’ll find a small but charming selection of shops and bars, as well as the famous Amadé Thermal Spa, where fun and relaxation await all ages, with its swimming pools, sauna and slide areas, wave pool, and water climbing wall.

About an hour away from Zauchensee lies the state capital, Salzburg. Culture enthusiasts, shopping lovers, and city explorers will feel right at home here. Visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mozart's birthplace, Mirabell Palace and its gardens, or the famous shopping street, Getreidegasse.
